Hidalgo

Kids

Hidalgo is a noble region that offers fun for adults and children alike.  Whether it be a trip to one of its many hot springs, visiting the interactive museum in the state capital, or taking a walk in one of the beautiful parks, the family will enjoy the hospitality of Hidalgo and its many diversions.

The Rehilete Museum

This is an interactive center of knowledge and fun.  This museum setting showcases science, art and technology in the form of direct experience and play.  The Rehilete Museum is one of the best destinations for children.

It offers permanent exhibits, an archeological exhibit, a botanical garden, a library, interactive areas focused on science, a planetarium and an observatory.  For your convenience, the museum also offers ample parking, a business area, a cafeteria and a souvenir shop.

The museum is near Mexico-Pachuca Highway km. 84.5.  Hours are Tuesday – Friday 9:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday 10:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

The Tulancingo Zoo

The Tulancingo Zoo has 180 species and a total of 330 animals including lions, tigers, lizards, bears, and a hippopotamus that also happens to be the zoo mascot.  This is one of the best zoos in the state and is a great option for a beautiful tour of this area.

El Chico National Park

This was the first park of its kind.  It was granted its status in 1898 with the mission of conserving many different species and the ecology most representative of the state.

Recommendations for the entire family include taking a tranquil walk, breathing the fresh air, walking pets on leashes (loose pets are prohibited in the park), bike riding, horseback riding or rock climbing.  Camping is also available in the park at any of the following sites:  Dos Aguas, Conejos, Los Cedros and Albergue Alpino.

The park is located in the municipalities of El Chico, Pachuca, and Real del Monte.  The park can be reached on the 105 Pachuca-Tampico Highway.

Other natural parks and camping areas for the family to enjoy include:  Rancho Santa Elena, Rancho Cinegetico El Guajolote (with restricted permission for hunting), and the EcoAlberto Ecological Park.

Hot Springs

The state of Hidalgo has more than 50 hot springs since the majority of the state is located on the Neo-volcanic Transverse Axis.  They are famous for their clear, warm and curative waters (rivers of lava run below the region to heat the water).  The waters are rich in minerals, sulphates, carbonates and nitrates.

At many different points in the state, your family can swim and play in the ponds, slides, kid’s areas, and camping sites, as well as enjoy hotels and services that only the people of Hidalgo know how to offer.
